  Well, we’ve made it to yet another year!  And by WE I’m referring to the whole of humanity!  Well, a large percentage of us did anyway.  Of course the fearmongers out there insist that the world will end on December 21st!  They use the excuse that the Mayan calendar ends on that day and so therefore the world must end too!

  Of course, the Mayans don’t actually say anywhere that the world will end.  Chances are they just ran out of space on whatever rock they were using.  But just in case, I plan on making this year the most successful ever!  Whether that be actually completing at least one of my projects, or finding new ways at making grand mistakes, I WILL be more successful this year!

  So far so good!  I’ve begun a new 365 project that will get me shooting every single day this year.  Whether its for a client, or for a personal project, or just to go shoot something, I will take a photo every single day of this year!  Yes, I’ve started several of these in the past and none ever lasted more tna a few months.  The point is that I am not giving up.  I WILL complete one and hey, why not this one!?

  In addition to this, thanks to a very generous offer from a fellow photographer, we now have access to actual studio space!  This will enable us to experiment with ideas, test equiment, and even work with clients in less than pleasant weather.

  This studio access will enable me to accomplish two other projects as well.  One is what  call Women on Fire and the other I call InHuman.  Both are book projects and I hope to get started on those very soon!

  But first, this web site needs some updating.  We will hopefully be refreshing the galleries soon.  Menu items will be shifting around a bit so we can get pricing and packages all under one roof to make it easier for everyone to find.  The changes won’t be huge, we don’t want want to confuse anyone, we just want to streamline things a bit more.

  Mel also has a calendar project idea we’ll be exploring, involving half naked men!

  Along with our project ideas, we have some new business processes being put in place to assist us with turning around images faster and getting product into clients hands as fast as possible.

• Update // Edmonton Wedding and Portrait Photographers

  Hey photo fans!  So, as of this month we are going to be trying to shake things up a bit.  Our goal for 2012 is to simply “Do More”.  Those two words refer to many things.  Here’s an update on how we’re going work on that goal.

  First, some history, including some personal info.  Up until October 19th I had been working 3 jobs.  I had my day job that pays my bills, I had a part time photo-lab job that kept me afloat because the day job just didn’t cover everything financially, and then I had my photography.  Mel had her day job and her family/personal life.

  Back in April of 2011 we had put out our Wag Jag deal and received great response!  We were quite excited but soon became afraid.  How were we going to handle all these shoots in the time we have?  104 sales and only 365 day in the year to do them.  Minus day job hours, minus part time job hours.  Minus hours spent with family and trying to just enjoy life.  Doesn’t leave a lot of time.  Sure enough, we fell behind.  As of this writing we have about 4 deliveries to make, 6 portrait sessions to edit, 5 weddings to edit, and a ton of personal images to wade through.  We are essentially two months behind.

  So what’s our plan for avoiding that next year?  Well, we still have some nails to hammer in on the details, but we’re taking the business to the next level and into being more business-like.  After all, we do eventually want to make this our day job.  So we need to charge appropriately and deliver on our promises.  We have a business advisor coming in to give us tips and tricks and who will help us get on track.  We are developing systems for managing projects, materials, ideas and clients.  And we are doing several things to help us keep motivated, productive and interested.

  Prior to January 1st you will see some minor changes to our web site.  We’ll be removing the Boudoir link and are moving that to it’s own blog in order to devote the Second Sight brand to weddings and portraits.  We’ll be trying to clean things up a bit but over all it won’t change too much.  I recently noticed that the right hand menu has fallen to the very bottom left of the page so I’ll need to fix that as well.  And we’ll be making some changes to our pricing structure.  Everything is being done for two reasons.  1) we want to provide our clients with the best memories we can presented in the best way we know how.  And 2) while we love our work, we also want to live our own lives and enjoy our time with friends and family.

  Every year I come up with some great ideas for personal projects and I get all gung ho and hyper about them, and then life and other things get in the way and my motivation drops because I just can’t get to everything I want to.  I’m going to attempt to put a hold on all of that this year and focus on one simple, yet ambitious project that is all about motiviation and inspiration.  I am currently writing up the concept in an actual for real document that I may use for promoting the idea to get other people involved.  If you’re a creative sort who might have somthing to offer, please get in touch.  The product involves creating motivating and inspiring videos.  Since it’s a personal project (for now) all roles are strictly voluntary so please keep that in mind.  However, my hope is that this will become something bigger and that it might attract sponsors and funding.  We’ll see.

  So that’s a bit of the plan so far.  Mel and I will be sitting down for meetings once we’ve caught up on our backlog and will have things stapled in place by the new year.  It’s going to be a great ride, so come along!

  We were so lucky to be present for Ashleigh and Chris’ wedding photo shoot in Mexico.  We couldn’t have asked for better weather!  Everyone looked so amazing, even if some of them did end up getting  a little too much sun (Dave and I not excluded…).  Here are just a few pictures I’ve had a chance to go through for now.  More to come!

  Oh these two were so fun! There’s nothing quite like the bond between mother and son (except maybe father and daughter). Tammy and Cooper are no exception. They have fun together, laugh together, joke together, and get along so well with each other. It’s a beautiful thing and I hope they have a great many years in each other’s lives. • Penny’s Portraits // Edmonton Portrait Photographers

  On August 13th we had the opportunity to do portraits of Penny and her hubby and their friends and a wee little baby!  We went to the Devonian Botanical Gardens which, for the most part, didn’t really impress me a whole lot as a lot of the plant life didn’t seem as dramatic as I’d envisioned based on the rave reviews I’d heard over the years.  Granted, this was our first visit there and it could just have been the time of year, I know how picky some plants may be about their seasonality.  Regardless, we managed to get some great images of everyone and we’d like to share a few with you here!

• Photo Walks // Edmonton Photographer

  So tonight marked the first of several PhotoWalks I’m calling WalkShops.  The intent is mainly for like minded individuals to hang out together and do some photography with each other.  It’s also to have a laugh, learn something, and just have a good time.  Often a smaller group will end up at a pub or something for a drink before calling it a night. 

  Running most Tuesdays I’m going to try and shake it up a bit by havig at least one Sunday every month.  If you’re a photographer or model in the Edmonton area and would like to join us, just look up the Edmonton Photo Walk page on Facebook.
